Social companionship · Calgary & Edmonton
Hearthside matches warm, caring companions with older Albertans for weekly home visits — tea, a walk, a game of cards. Whether you're arranging this for a parent or for yourself, we make it simple and genuinely good.
Whether you're calling for yourself or for someone you love — the process is the same, and we take care of everything.
We start with a warm phone conversation — their personality, their interests, their daily rhythms. The more we know, the better the match.
We hand-pick a companion whose personality genuinely complements your parent. One of our coordinators attends the first visit in person — no stranger arrives alone.
Visits happen on a schedule you choose together. After every visit, you receive a brief note so you always know how things went — without having to be there.
We're not a care agency — we're a companion service. Our visits look like what a good friend does.
Important: We do not provide personal care (bathing, dressing, medication management). We are a social companionship service.
Your parent is doing well — but you can see the days getting quieter. They're not unwell, they're just alone more than is good for them. You can't always be there, and you know it.
Hearthside gives you a way to do something about it without uprooting anyone's life. A companion visits regularly, does the things your parent enjoys, and sends you a brief note after every visit so you know how they are.
You're independent, you're fine — and you'd just like someone to spend time with. Someone who shows up regularly, who remembers what you said last week, and who genuinely wants to be there.
You don't need your children to arrange this. You can call us directly, set things up exactly how you want them, and decide what — if anything — you want to share with your family. It's your service.
"Within three weeks of Sarah starting, Dad was calling me to tell me what they'd talked about. He hadn't initiated a call in months."
"Mum looks forward to Wednesdays now. She actually gets dressed up. That might sound small but it means the world to us."
"I called Hearthside myself. My daughter had nothing to do with it. I wanted company on my own terms, and that's exactly what I got. Sarah comes on Tuesdays and I look forward to it all week."
"I was very independent my whole life and I didn't want my sons fussing over me. Hearthside was my idea, my decision. I arranged it, I chose the schedule. It's been eight months and I wouldn't change a thing."
No hidden fees, no long-term contracts. Cancel or adjust anytime. All plans available whether you're signing up for yourself or arranging for someone you love.
